Highland High School was nominated as a semi-finalist or finalist in EVERY category for the Arizona High School Musical Theatre Awards at Arizona State University Gammage this year for "Frozen". They attended the ASU Gammage red carpet on May 25 for final winners!

Highland High represents Arizona and their community with Frozen: The Broadway Musical
Highland High will present the first-ever high school production of Disney’s Frozen: The Broadway Musical in Arizona, with performances on November 30th through December 2nd at 7:00 pm with a matinee show on the 2nd at 2:00 pm. The school earned this opportunity as part of a nationwide competition, where one high school in every U.S. state was chosen to win exclusive rights to present the musical in 2023.
A wide range of performing arts programs at Highland High will work together to create a night to remember for friends, family, and the wider Highland High community. Students from drama, choir, orchestra, and stagecraft programs at the school are involved and are at the center of the entire production, on stage, behind the scenes, in the orchestra, and as director.
The students will be supported by a team of Highland High staff. Laura Hardy, in her 3rd year as theatre director at Highland High, will lead the production featuring over 50 students, alongside music director Katie Bortnem, choreographer Teja Trepte, orchestra conductor Craig Ghormley, and technical director Nathan Crane.
“The best part of my job is I get to watch students discover they can do more than they thought they could.” said Laura Hardy, Theatre Director, Highland High School.
“We couldn’t do this production without everything the students from all these programs contribute. The students are really strong together.”
75 students auditioned, and 33 made it into the cast. There will be an orchestra of over 20 students, and over 20 stagecraft students designing and on the crew.
“This is an opportunity for students to showcase their amazing talents in song, dance, design, and musicianship as well as their sense of compassion towards our community through this beautiful story’s message of love and acceptance for each other and oneself. While being extraordinarily fun, it is also such a meaningful story about the healing power of love,” director Hardy said.
