In the News: Bob Allen's 30-Year Legacy at Highland High
When Bob Allen arrived at Highland High School in 1996, there was little around the campus but farmland. There was also no real structure for students who wanted to give back to their community.
He spent the next 30 years building one.
Through a student-led service learning program he created from scratch, Highland students have logged more than 650,000 volunteer hours across the Valley. A school blood drive tradition he helped establish has brought in 16,781 donors over two decades, with each donation potentially benefiting up to three lives, for a total impact exceeding 50,000 people.
"I think that's the best part of this class," Allen said. "They started realizing it was way more than just leaving campus. It was, 'I get to go make an impact.'"
