Welcome!

Here is some information about the classes I teach.

Child Development will develop students’ understanding of human growth and development. It is an in-depth study of parenting, pregnancy, and children during the first year of life. Positive parenting skills are stressed. Students will study the importance of healthy families in today's society.

Intro to TOYBOX will provide students a study of children's growth and development from one to six years of age. Emphasis is on the development of the young child including physical, social, intellectual, and emotional development. Students will participate in preschool observation and hands-on activities. This course is designed for students who are interested in a career dealing with children and is a prerequisite for the TOYBOX program.

TOYBOX gives students on-the-job training in the HHS TOYBOX Child Development Lab.  Students will be teaching, supervising, and using positive methods of discipline.  They will also study daycare operations.  This experience will enable them to secure a job in childcare services and is an excellent experience for those students interested in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education.  Participation in the FCCLA Club is required.  This course can also be taken for dual enrollment thru Chandler Gilbert Community College.

Clothing I & II give students the opportunity to learn basic sewing techniques including use fabric selection, reading a pattern, pattern layout, sewing machine operation, seam finishes, and hand sewing techniques.  First semester students will also learn how to put in a zipper and how to attach a hook and eye.  Second semester they will learn how to create button holes, how to attach a collar and sleeves, and will create a project using knit fabric.

About Me

I am originally from Chicago and have lived in Gilbert since graduating from Purdue University with a Bachelors degree in Home Economics Education.  I also have a Master's degree in Secondary Education from Northern Arizona University.  My husband and I are the proud parents of three sons and a daughter, all of whom have attended Highland High School.  In my free time I like to travel and spend time with my family, which usually means being on the soccer field.
